Mais on a appris que dans 3 jours quelqu’un allait tondre des moutons là-bas, et on a décidé d’y retourner. C’était très drôle !

But then we learned that there would be a demonstration of sheep-shearing on Saturday, and so we went back – how many times do you get to see that?

Tupare le 1re décembre

Encore un jardin, construit par un couple Néo Zélandais qui ont passé leur lune de miel (de 9 mois) en Grande Bretagne, et qui ont décidé de reproduire les jardins qu’ils ont vus là-bas, chez eux. Ils ont commencé pendant les années 30, et avec l’aide de leurs amis, de leurs éventuels enfants, et des ouvriers fournis par l’état pendant cette période de crise, ils ont crée une très belle maison, et un magnifique jardin.

On a passé un matin à Tupare uniquement pour voir le jardin. On aime surtout les fougères arbustives, les séquoias, les autres plantes tropicales.

Once again a garden, built by a New Zealand couple who went to Britain for their 9 month honeymoon in the 30’s, and decided to reproduce the gardens they had seen there. They had help from their friends, eventually from their children, and from workers hired under a government employment scheme. They have created a lovely house and a magnificent garden.

We spent one morning there just to see the garden, particularly tree ferns, huge redwoods (despite being only 70 years old) and lots of other tropical plants.

New Plymouth: Le Jardin Pukeiti – 30 novembre Pukeiti Garden

Notre premier visite était, bien sur à un jardin – Pukeiti, où il y a 20 hectares de rhododendrons, entourés par 340 hectares de foret tropical. On a meme dit bonjour a une vache avant d'arriver. C’était gratuit, et on était tous seuls pendant toute la matinée !

Our first visit, of course, to a garden – Pukeiti, where there are 20 hectares of rhododendrons, in 340 hectares of rain forest. We said hello to the cow on the way there! It was free, and we were alone there all morning.

New Plymouth 28 novembre-9 decembre

Puis à New Plymouth, sur la cote ouest. La ville n’est pas connue comme touristique, mais comme on a reçu l’offre d’une maison en échange, on a décidé d’y venir. Et on n’est pas déçus. La maison est belle, avec encore une bonne situation – la Mer Tasman d’un cote, le Mont Taranaki, un pic volcanique. On a déjà fait une partie de la promenade côtière – 7 km. , et juste devant chez nous.

Then on to New Plymouth, on the west coast. It’s not a common tourist destination, but since we were offered an exchange house here, and since it did seem to have some attractions, we decided to come. So far we’re not disappointed. The house is attractive, and again with a great location – the Tasman Sea to one side, the volcanic Mount Taranaki to the other. We have already walked most of the coastal walkway, along with cyclists, walkers, dog lovers, etc. All well-behaved.
