12-15 février Yangon - Rangoon 12-15 February

A Yangon on a commencé notre tour des sites bouddhistes – on verrait innombrables temples, pagodes, et statues de Bouddha.  Premièrement, la pagode de Shwedagon à Yangon, couverte de feuilles d’or.

At Yangon we began our tour of Buddhist sites with Schwedagon Pagoda, the first of many temples, pagodas, statues of Buddha.  The peak is covered in gold leaf.

La Birmanie (Myanmar)– 11 février au 1 mars. Burma

Après notre périple en Australie, on est allé en Birmanie (Myanmar) – où on a  pris  beaucoup (trop?) de photos.  Donc, on pense à préparer un blog uniquement for ça.  Mais, en attendant, voici plusieurs souvenirs de notre séjour en Asie.

Mais, avant ca – pourquoi a-t’on choisi la Birmanie ?  Parce que c’est un pays qu’on voulait voir depuis longtemps, et que tout le monde dit reste toujours' l’Asie comme elle était.'  C’est un pays avec beaucoup de problèmes, où ‘une junte militaire a le pouvoir depuis 1962.  L’Europe et beaucoup d’autres pays ont pris des sanctions économiques contre ce pays, et pendant longtemps ‘The Lady’ Aung San Suu Kyi, qui dirige l’opposition a demandé aux étrangers de ne pas visiter la Birmanie.  Récemment, de plus en plus de gens pensent qu’il faut ouvrir le pays pour qu’il commence à changer – et que les touristes doivent penser à découvrir le pays.

After our stay in Australia, we went on to Burma (Myanmar), where we took LOTS of photos.  We’re thinking of consolidating them into another blog, but while we’re preparing that, here’s a sample.

First of all though, why did we choose Burma?  Because it’s a place we’ve always wanted to visit, and because people told us it was ‘Asia as it used to be.’  The country has many problems, with a military junta in power since 1962.  Europe and North America have applied economic sanctions, and for a long time ‘The Lady’ Aung San Suu Kyi, the leader of the opposition, requested that people not visit the country.  But recently there has been a growing belief that for things to change, the country should be less isolated – and that tourists should consider coming.

9-10 février Perth

A Perth on a rendu visite aux amis, qui nous a montré un peu de la ville :le jardin botanique, et la Rivière Swan  – et qui  ont préparé un vrai barbecue Australien – on était seulement 6 ! Inutile à dire qu’on n’a pas tout mangé.

In Perth we stayed with friends, who showed us a little of the city,including the Botanical garden, and the Swan River - and who prepared a real Ozzie barbecue for us – we were only 6.  Needless to say, we didn’t eat it all!

8 février. Tree top walk, Walpole

La vallée des géants – une promenade parmi les arbres (karri et tingle) à 40 mètres de haut !  C‘est  quelque chose que Harry voulait faire depuis longtemps, et malgré le distance, c’était vraiment vaut le voyage !  Malgré la pluie, c’est quelque chose qu’on n’oubliera jamais. Magnifique.

The Valley of the Giants, at the southwest tip of Australia – where you walk among the treetops (karri and tingle) – up to 40 metres high.  Harry wanted to do this for a long time, and it was really worth the trip.  Despite the rain, something we’ll never forget.  Quite magnificent.

7 fevrier. Leeuwin Estate Restaurant

Après tout ce tourisme, on a eu faim, et est allé au Restaurant au vignoble de Leeuwin.  Tres bel, et tres bon.  On a gouté le ‘marron’ mot anglais pour des écrevisses d’eau douce.  Super.

After all this touring, we stopped in at the Leeuwin Wine Estate, which has a beautiful, and very good, restaurant.  We were able to taste marron, a freshwater crayfish.  Amazing.

7 fevrier. Foret de Boranup Forest

Il y a des arbres étonnants ici – à Boranup les ‘Karri’ parmi les plus grands du monde.

Lots of amazing trees here.  The Boranup forest has Karri trees, among the tallest in the world.

7-8 fevrier. Margaret River

Margaret River – une zone viticole tres connue en Australie - on a passé deux jours dans un gite dans un vignoble de cette région.  Ils étaient en train de  mettre leur vin en bouteilles, et Harry l’a gouté.  J’étais intéressée de voir qu’il y a encore des lapins en Australie.

Margaret River is a well-known wine area in Australia – we spent two nights there in a cottage on a vineyard.  They were bottling their wine that day, and Harry got to have a taste. I was also interested to see that there are still rabbits in Australia!
