31 décembre Vergelegen – vignoble-jardin-restaurant(s): vineyard, garden, restaurants

Le Helderberg, région viticole autour de ‘chez nous’ a 3 vignobles qui datent de 1700 – avec un grand écart entre la fabrication du vin au début, et aujourd’hui, où ils étaient plutôt des exploitations agricoles.

A Lourensford il y a aussi une brulerie où on achète du café – exceptionnellement fermée aujourd’hui, mais on aime toujours Vergelegen, à cote, surtout ses jardins, et ses maisons historiques, et le bistrot.

The Helderberg wine region around our apartment has 3 vineyards that date back to 1700, - although for a long period between their founding and today, they served mainly as farms.  Lourensford also has a coffee roasting store, where we often buy coffee – unfortunately closed today. So we went next door to Vergelegen, our favourite, and enjoyed the garden, the historic house, and their bistro.

29 décembre – la mouette – the seagull

Devant notre fenêtre, une mouette se pose.  A seagull balancing outside our window.

27 décembre – et 27 ans de mariage

Le temps passe, et encore une fois c’est notre anniversaire de mariage --  c’est année on fête nos 27 ans de mariage.  Et bien sur, au restaurant.  Cette fois, c’est au vignoble de Waterkloof, pas loin de notre appart.

Time passes and once again it’s our wedding anniversary – this time our 27th.  And of course we’re off to a restaurant, this time to the vineyard at Waterkloof, not far from our place.

On commence avec l’amuse bouche.   Starting with the ‘amuse bouche’

L’entrée – lapin (dans la feuille de chou) avec d’épice (pas trouvé).

As a starter, rabbit – cunningly hidden in the cabbage leaf with gingerbread. So well hidden I couldn’t find it!

Pour Harry  écrevisse d’eau douce.  We have only ever seen marron in Australia – a type of fresh water crayfish.

Et comme plat – pour moi, loup de mer et écrevisse avec pomme ‘compressée’ à la bière de gingembre.

Monkfish and crispy shrimp with ginger beer compressed apple.

Poitrine de porc avec St Jacques et … beurre de cacahouète.  Heureusement très subtile.

12 hour cooked pork belly with scallop and  ... peanut butter.  Luckily very subtle.

Ca ne parait pas beaucoup, Mais on n’avait plus faim.  Pas de dessert, mais des friandises avec le café

Didn’t seem like a lot of food, but we weren’t hungry.  We didn’t have dessert, just the little goodies that came with coffee. 

A chacun son bouleau - each of us has a job.

Très beau, à l’intérieure, et à l’extérieure – on était dans la ‘bulle’ d’où on voit ‘notre marina’ sur la baie.

A beautiful restaurant, inside and out.  We were in the ‘pod’ overlooking our marina complex down in the bay.
