Et aujourd’hui quand il pleuvait des cordes ! On était trempés - il a fallu rentrer chez nous changer des vêtements.

And today it was raining cats and dogs! We got soaked, and had to go home and change clothes before going out again. (January 9 - the weather department predicts flooding at Mullumbimby)

On aime aller aux marchés quand on voyage, et on a entendu parler de Mullumbimby. Donc, deux visites : la première, vendredi 31 décembre, quand il ne pleuvait pas.

We like to go to markets when we travel, and we had heard that Mullumbimby, about 1/2 hour away, was good. So, two visits- the first, Friday 31 December, when it wasn’t raining.

Pour la première fois on a acheté des bananes et du café direct du producteur - produits de la région.

For the first time ever we bought bananas and coffee directly from the producer - grown in the region

Et chez nous – un déjeuner bien mérité.

Après, à Nightcap- on to Nightcap

Pas loin se trouve le parc de Nightcap, et les chutes des Manifestants. Apparemment c’est une région ou il y avait beaucoup d’exploitation forestière. Pendant les années 80 il y avait beaucoup de manifestions pour sauvegarder le foret, et en 1989 ils ont réussi. Donc, maintenant les chutes s’appellent ‘Les Manifestants.’ C’est vraiment un foret tropical.

Not far away is the Nightcap State Park, and Protester Falls. Apparently in the 1980’s there was still a lot of logging in the area, and various groups protested against this. Finally, in 1989 logging was forbidden and the forest was saved – now the falls are called after the protesters. As you can see, it is really a tropical forest.


On commence avec un passage en bois - et puis un petit pont. We begin with a boardwalk - and then on to a narrow bridge.

Et enfin les Chutes des Manifestants. Finally, Protester Falls.

Whian Whian. Une visite au foret tropical - a visit to a tropical rainforest

On connaissait pas du tout cette région, mais on se souvenait que la dernière fois qu’on était en Australie, on aimait beaucoup les forets tropicaux. Donc, quand il ne pleut pas, on se promène et le 5 janvier on a décidé d’aller aux parcs de Whian Whian et de Nightcap, à peu près 50 km d’Alstonville.

Premièrement, Whian Whian, pour les chutes de Minyon. Il n’est pas facile à comprendre dans les photos, mais les chutes ont presque 100 mètres de hauteur. Très impressionnant. On a même trouve un petit serpent.

We didn’t know anything about this area before coming, but we remembered that the last time we were in Australia we were very impressed by the rain forest. So, on 5^th January, a day when it wasn’t raining, we took a trip to the parks of Whian Whian and Nightcap, about 50 km. from Alstonville.

First to Whian Whian, for the Minyon falls. It’s not easy to see in the photos, but the falls are over 100 metres high. Very impressive. We even found a little snake there.

Puis, en essayant de découvrir une autre partie du parc, on n’a pas pu à cause de l’eau. Mais on a vu un lézard presque préhistorique.

Then, while trying to explore another part of the park, we had to give up because of the water. But we did see a big lizard – almost prehistoric.
