le 7 fevrier Le jardin de Stellenberg

On est allé visiter le jardin de Stellenberg, 1,6 hectares dans le centre de Cape Town, ouvert le 7 février.  L’histoire de la propriété  date à 1697, quand les hollandais sont arrivés.

La maison  date du 18^e, et a échappé ce qu’’on appelle le ‘victorianisation’ – les changements pour accorder au style de  l’ère victorien.  Donc, le toit est toujours en chaume, au lieu d’étain, et les portes et fenêtres sont d’origine. Depuis 60 ans les propriétaires ont développé le jardin, l’un des meilleurs dans la région.  Dans ce jardin se trouve un ‘jardin en blanc’, un potager, les pelouses, un jardin ‘sauvage’… 

We went to see the garden at Stellenberg, in the centre of Cape Town, which was open to the public on 7th February.  The estate dates back to 1697, and the house to the 18^th century.  The owners of the house refused to follow the style of ‘’Victorianisation’, and so it has kept its thatched roof and original doors and windows.  The garden consists of 4 acres in the centre of the city, with a white garden, a formal herb garden, a wilderness area, lovely lawns …

Assez confortable!  Quite comfortable.

Le 3 février. Déjeuner au vignoble d’Oak Valley. Lunch at the Oak Valley Vineyard

Souvent on visite les vignobles de Stellenbosch, mais il y d’autres régions de vin ici, dont Elgin, pas loin de chez nous. Des amis nous on parle de ‘Oak Valley’, et nous avons décidé d’y aller. 

While we often go to Stellenbosch, there are other wine regions in this area, one of them being Elgin, not far from us.  Friends had spoken about Oak Valley, and so off we went.

La charcutierie est 'fait-maison' - luerus cochons ne mangent que des glands, les vaches nourries a l'herbe naturelle.  The charcuterie is all made on the estate, from acorn-fed pigs and grass-fed cows.
