15 avril -- Repas de chasse, Salle des Fêtes de Carlux. Hunters' Lunch

Il y a 30 ans, Harry et moi sommes sortis ensemble pour la première fois le 15 avril.  Jamais je n’aurais pensé me trouver dans las Salle des Fêtes de Carlux 30 ans après !  Mais, quand même, nous y sommes avec des amis.

Thirty years ago Harry and I went out for the first time on April 15th.  I would never have expected to find myself in the village hall of Carlux thirty years later. But here we are, having fun with our friends.  Each year the hunters have a meal where they offer the results of their season, and we partake. Vegetarians be warned.

Avant le repas.  Apero.
Before lunch - aperitif

La Garbure - Soup.  Just right for the start of a heavy meal!

Et un peu de terrine.  A little terrine.

Civet de sanglier avec ses crouton.  Wild boar stew with garlic toasts.

Et maintenant le 'trou' ’ – pas tout à fait normand.  
Our take on a 'trou normand' - sorbet with eau de vie, to clear the palate.

Pour qu’on puisse attaquer les deux rôtis – chevreuil et sanglier.

So that we can attack the two roasts, venison and wild boar.

Salade avec cabecou. La rose ne se mange pas.

 Salad with cabecou (local goat's cheese.)  I didn't eat the rose.

Salade de fruits (moins intéressante) merveilles, et pain de pacques.

Three desserts.  Fruit salad, not so interesting, but also merveilles, a kind of doughnut, and Easter bread

 

Club de canoe 14 avril

On s’intéresse au club de canoë de Carlux (surtout Harry, ancien scout) et on les a aidés à commencer leur saison. Sauf que, après un mois de mars très chaud, on a maintenant un mois d’avril presque hivernal. Bien sur, on a mangé après. Raymond a suggéré que je fais des photos de notre magnifique repas (comme celles que j’ai prises au Cap)  Pizza, ventrèche, saucisse, et après (elles étaient en train d’être préparées) des frites.

We are interested in the local canoe club, especially Harry, who was a Boy Scout ! So we went down to help them with the start of the season – except that, after a really warm March, we are having a wintry April. Then of course, something to eat. Raymond, next to Harry below, suggested I take a picture of our 'gourmet meal, barbecued sausage, pizza, ventreche (rather like bacon) to compare with some of the rather more elegant photos I took of our meals at the Cape.  The frites came a little later.

Une petite journée à Toulouse, A short day in Toulouse

Notre copine Lorri devait partir de l’aéroport de Toulouse, et on a décidé d’en profiter pour lui montrer un peu de la ville.

Un bon déjeuner à la Brasserie des Beaux Arts, http://www.brasserielesbeauxarts.com/fr, suivi par une visite à l’église des Jacobins, à la place du Capitole, et puis on a du aller à Blagnac.
 

Our friend Lorri was leaving form the Toulouse airport, and so we decided to take advantage of this, and show her a little of the city.

We started with a good lunch at the Brasserie des Beaux Arts, http://www.brasserielesbeauxarts.com/fr, and then strolled along the river to the church of the Jacobins, and then to the Place de Capitole, the central square in Toulouse. Then off to the airport.

Une petite promenade. A little walk

Cette semaine ma copine Lorri était chez nous, et on bavardait beaucoup. Plus on a bien mangés, bien bus, et même pris une promenade.

This week my friend Lorri was with us, and we took time from gabbing and eating and drinking to do a little walk. All within about 300m.

Un souvenir de ‘De Trafford’

Pendant notre séjour en Afrique, on est allés au vignoble de Trafford, ou il y a du TRES bon vin.  Nous avons bu le vin, mais j’ai rapporté un petit souvenir de là bas pour ma cuisine.  La femme du vigneron, Rita Trafford est artiste.  Elle peint des étiquettes pour les bouteilles, et aussi des tableaux.

While we were away we went to the De Trafford vineyard, where they make VERY good wine. We drank the wine, but I brought home a souvenir for the kitchen.  The wife of the winemaker, Rita Trafford is an artist.  She designs the labels for the bottles, and also does her own work.

Encore une fois chez nous – Home at last

We returned to Carlux at the beginning of March, happy to know that the very cold (-15, snowy) weather had gone. Lots of sun, although cold mornings for a while. And the garden was taking off. Unfortunately it looks as though we may be in for another very dry summer - much of the country is already suffering from drought.

On est rentrés début mars, heureux de constater que le très froid (-15, neigeux) temps avait disparu. Beaucoup de soleil, bien qu’il faisait froid le pendant un certain temps. Et le jardin a bien commencé. Malheureusement, il semble qu’on aura encore une fois un été très sec - la plupart du pays souffre déjà de la sécheresse.
