Descente de la Dordogne. Trip down the Dordogne

Dimanche 1^re septembre on est sortis, avec le canoë Kayak Club Carlux  de Groléjac à Castelnaud, à peu près 20 km.  Nos amis de l’Australie, David et Denise, sont arrivés samedis, et était ravis de participer

Sunday1st September we went out with the Carlux Canoe and Kayak Club on a trip from Groléjac to Castelnaud, about 20 km. our friends from Australia, David and Denise, arrived Saturday, and were very happy to join us.

 Le village de Turnac (je pense).  Turnac, I think.

 

Martine, Annie, et Raymond

 On s’arrête un moment en dessous du Château de Montfort.  A short stop below the château of Montfort.

 Magnifique. 

Le château date de 866, mais il a été détruit par Simon de Montfort en 1214, et 3 fois après, pendant les guerres de religion, puis reconstruit dans le 19^e.

The origins of the château go back to 866, but it was destroyed in 1214 by Simon de Montfort, and then 3 times more during the Wars of Religion.  It was restored in the 19^th century.

 Aussi magnifique, construits par la nature.  Just as wonderful, built by nature.

 

C’est nous – difficile à reconnaitre, mais c’est vrai.  It’s us – not easy to recognize from behind, but it really is.

Midi.  On se repose.Raymond, avec Martine et Annie. Lunchtime, having a rest.

L’après-midi, on continue.  Toujours très tranquille – au début.

In the afternoon, we continue.  Starting out very quiet and calm.

 Le village de La Roque Gageac.

Tout à coup, trop de monde.  Suddenly, too many people.

 Mais, pas trop loin - on arrive au Château de Castelnaud, qui date du 12^e.

 But not long after we arrive at Castelnaud, whose chateau goes back to the 12^th century.

 

Et les Australiens sont toujours avec nous.  The Australians still with us!
