Quand on n’était
pas aux châteaux, on a trouvé d’autres choses à faire – ici les grottes de
Cougnac, pas loin de Carlux. Evidemment,
il y a d’autres grottes plus impressionnantes, (Lascaux, Font de Gaume, Pech
Merle) mais en plein vacances, on voulait éviter trop d’autres touristes, circulation,

When not visiting chateaux, we found other things to do –
here a trip to the Caves at Cougnac, not far from Carlux. There are other caves in the region that are
more impressive, but since this is tourist season, we wanted to avoid the
traffic and as many other tourists as possible.
Les galeries sont
d’une très grande richesse de concrétions, avec des stalactites très fines, et au bout de
la deuxième, une galerie ornée, datant
vers 25000 BP.
The caves have an amazing number of ‘concretions’, mainly
very fine stalactites. Then, at the end
of the second gallery, there is a decorated cave, with drawings dating back to
25000 BC.
