We seldom go to Perigueux, the capital of our Department,
the Dordogne. But we had to renew our International
Driving Permit (basically translation of our French license) before going away
to Scotland, and to the Cape.
So, after an hour of waiting at the Prefecture, that was
done, and we wandered a bit in the market. Then it was lunchtime. We found a shady square, Place St Silain,
with a small restaurant, Les Cigales.
Nothing extraordinary, but for 12 Euros we had the ‘Menu du Jour’ – Harry’s
was 14, as he had dessert.(Tax and tip included)
Salad with warm goat cheese in a crunchy light pastry, and for Harry, vegetable terrine
Steak with pepper cream sauce, and turkey breast
with red pepper sauce, and potato galettes Et comme dessert, un soi-disant clafouti aux pommes. For dessert, Apple clafouti.
D’autres déjeunent aussi.
Others having lunch.
Puis – le musée
Vesunna.
Then to the
Vesunna museum. It houses the vestiges of a huge Roman
property from the first century BC, when the town was known as Vesone, in the
area of Civitas petrucoriorum. The building
is by Jean Nouvel, winner of the 2008 Pritzker Prize, who was born in Sarlat,
just 15 minutes from our house.
En face du musee. Opposite the museum (there is a train line between the trees and the building)
On arrive au musee. Arriving at the museum
Perhaps an art installation – there were others. Or just a
pile of (empty) cardboard boxes.
Et, sur la route
de retour, un champ près de Simeyrols.
On the way home, one of our favourite fields
near Simeyrols – 5 minutes away
