We went down to the Canoe club site by the river, for an ‘Auberge espagnole’ or pot luck dinner. Apparently Spanish inns at one time offered beds, but nothing to eat, and so you had to bring your own food. The expression is now common here. Our picnic basket is considered to be very British, but the bottle bag is from the Lourensford vineyard in the Cape.
Notre panier ‘tres British, très classe’ apparemment, avec le sac du vignoble Lourensford au Cap.
