The Wind Wand is 'a much loved local icon' of New Plymouth. The work of Len Lye, the most famous artist from New Zealand, it is 45 metres high, sways with the wind, and has over 1296 diodes (LED) in the ball at the top. Not bad as a Millennium project.
We also tried to go to the Museum of Contemporary Art, but it was closed for the whole week. So not much culture yet.

The first wind wand was built in Toronto - but it wasn't built to spec so he made them take it down. Dumb Canucks! (I am one, I can say that)http://www.windwand.co.nz/ourwindwand.htm
